| Well, this DVD movie Young Adam is not for everyone. A little sad, a little dark, and love scenes are not always attractive, but something in the dark I simplicity. McGregor is incredibly versatile, I did not think that once the bohemian poet Christian or Obi Wan ... has assumed an unlikeable character with a slow-moving plot and pulled it off beautifully. Tilda Swinton plays a seductive antithesis of Hollywood, which makes some of the love scenes uncomfortable, but refreshing. Acting as a whole is the whole movie. The action between the characters is subtle and intense, and though they may be biased as Ewan fan, I thought it was perfect for a night, rainy night! |
| Young Adam is a powerful drama and the atmosphere in the canals between Glasgow and Edinburgh during the 1950s. Ewan McGregor is Joe, a drifter working on a barge, when he and his boss, found a body in the canal. As he begins a relationship with the river wife (Tilda Swinton), we find more information about his previous relationship with the woman drowned (Emily Mortimer). Adapted from the novel by Scottish Beat writer Alexander Trocchi Young Adam is in a sense, a kitchen sink drama - a vivid picture of the working class in his life unpleasant reality. One of the best examples of this type of Young Adam film is in the Upper Room (1959). But Young Adam has existentialist shades: Joe is alienated and passive, not just his many sexual couplings offer little comfort, but to reject the only thing that could redeem him, condemning himself to a life without meaning. This may sound too depressing, but the screenwriter and director David Mackenzie, the film: Young Adam gives a great depth and sensuality. Very interesting. ****/***** Stars. |
| Dark, dark and brooding, Adam Young is accused of a Young Adam Drama movie without tension throughout the process. Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton are excellent in the leading roles, both in the transmission implied guilt as part barge McGregor gets involved in an ill-advised affair with her boss's wife. The body of a dead woman on the Clyde leads that appear to unravel a trail that leaves a sick feeling in the stomach until the end of the DivX Movie Young Adam (and only then we realize the importance of the title). Located in Glasgow this bleak 1950 recreation is a sample of Scottish art cinema (although it does not have to go abroad for much of the funding). The raw sexuality in a changing environment by grittiest explosive aesthetic beauty in the movie: Young Adam to explore the interior of the units of work through the characters and their dilemmas with them. |
