In the near future, Earth is dying. A new colony on Mars could be humanity's only hope. A team of American astronauts, each a specialist in a different field, is making the first manned expedition to the red planet and must struggle to overcome the differences in their personalities, backgrounds and ideologies for the overall good of the mission. When their equipment suffers life-threatening damage and the crew must depend on one another for survival on the hostile surface of Mars, their doubts, fears and questions about God, man's destiny and the nature of the universe become defining elements in their fates. I can never fully explain to people (or me) why this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I have to say and that is one of the few films that actually watch repeatedly. I can say is the acting is first rate. Val Kilmer is Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore is fun and charming. Simon Baker (now famous for) does a great job of playing a weaselly type that crumbles. Carrie-Anne Moss is sexy and looks similar to the Matrix, Ben Bratt is intense and pitch perfect. This DVD movie Red Planet is just a tight little package of what a Red Planet Action movie should always be a good rhythm, superbly acted, solid argument. I agree with one of the other respondents who had just come out at a time when there were so many other Hollywood films about space and especially Mars. If you missed this DivX film Red Planet the first time and want to see a realistic, entertaining and well-crafted DivX Movie Red Planet on space go for it. Better yet, catch the $ 8.99 bin and buy it. If you're a fan of good movies is probably seeing more than once.

Mars Attacks was much better than this. Depressingly bad, unimaginative, sneering lip service paid to long and very milked tropes of science fiction to make a quick buck off the Red Wave at the time. "How people out with this kind of thing?" I wonder to myself sometimes as the long winter nights draw in and I feel my age. I could not escape the feeling that the actors felt they were in another stupid kiddie brain science fiction DivX Movie Red Planet that will be seen only by geeks. When the astronaut complained algebra and I looked at my flatmate only each other and groaned. "You're an astronaut!" said to the screen, "You're good at Algebra!" "I hate this planet," says one of the 'nauts near the end as fear ... ... ... robot murderer ... ZZZZZ criteria for another action sequence. No. It's the Red Planet Action that he hates, and who can blame? Poorly shot, badly written, badly directed, just bad to the bone. 1 star mandatory. Lots of space Poo. And holding to boot. Boo! Hiss!
