Based upon the Tom Clancy novel of the same name, Jack Ryan, a CIA analyst, is thrust right in the middle of a power struggle within the Colombian drug cartel after one of the President's 'life long' friends is murdered, apparently in retaliation for stealing money as part of a money laundering scheme for the cartel. Jack is then appointed acting Deputy Director of Intelligence, CIA, upon the terminal illness of Admiral James Greer, former DDI, and quickly gets in over his head due to his political naivete. The situation rapidly deteriorates when some of the presidents men convince the President to conduct covert actions against the cartel, in direct violation of congress. Felix Cortez, the security chief of Ernesto Escobeda, the 'victim' of the missing money, is one of the cartel boss's. Cortez tries to play both sides, appearing to inform Escobeda about the CIA's involvement in the covert operations against him, while trying to orchestrate a coup to take over the cartel, with Cortez as it's sole boss. James Cutter, the President's National Security Advisor, makes his own deal with Cortez, with the Presidents knowledge, and halts communications to the covert troops still in Colombia, through the Deputy Director of Operations, CIA, Robert Ritter. Ryan ends up going to Colombia to rescue the covet ops troops with the help of field agent John Clark, but not before some fence mending between the two, being that Ritter blamed Ryan for the comm outage, with Clark's men subsequently being captured by Cortez's mercenaries.

I have read some very negative reviews of this film, and many are annoyed by the lack of consistency with the book despite taking characterizations are so .. I agree that the DVD film Clear and Present Danger does not follow the book but it is a particularly good movie, by watching the movie, not a book or a Clear and Present Danger movie for book readers to stop criticizing this level. This DivX film Clear and Present Danger is entertaining from beginning to end with a clever plot is surprising taking into account gender and credit must go to Ford and starring in another blockbuster excel. People may say that is not the most versatile player in the world and I will not disagree, but it does what it does brilliantly, and those who do not enjoy this Clear and Present Danger movie really need a good talking to. Along with Patriot Games, this is part of an impressive series of films that are much more entertaining that the books (perhaps because that I am not an avid reader) and shall keep all the viewers out there who are happy, if only for a while .

With the book so long, obviously not all of the plot twists and developments could be tight in this film, which is a little over 2 hours. In this respect, the movie: Clear and Present Danger is very good, with a good mix of action scenes and scenes of strong-minded politically. A major embarrassment was ending and the omission of characters who played a significant role in the final book. This was the same with Patriot Games. My only disappointment is that Ryan's friend, Dan Murray, was killed in the same scene where Emil Jacobs, director of the FBI, was killed. He was a good character, but was not given time to show. In the books of Murray became director of the FBI, at the end of Clancy's series. Than those scenes with Murray and Jack Ryan, the acting and the theater was perfect. A worthy addition to the series of Jack Ryan, and much better than the sum of all fears, "with Ben Affleck was Ryan. Harrison Ford is the best Jack Ryan. First class!
