What a disappointment. After all the hype was really looking forward to this program. The central character of Miss Marple seems Harpo Marx, but unfortunately we hear Miss Twee Marpel voice. She overacts horribly as do most of the cast. It looks like a staff pantomime or a fundraising charity. This is really a waste because it is clear that much money has been spent on this, the settings are great. Too many players shouting, of course, acting. Miss Marple has no weight or believability, she simply can not carry the load. She is not even in the same league as Margaret Rutherford and Joan Hickson. What a shame. And by the way it was the car that was burned? We have not seen that it is safe. |
Change the ending of "The Body in the Library" was original, to say the least, but ridiculous, and quite useless. That did nothing to improve the unnecessary Agatha Christie's reputation as the "Queen of Whodunnits. If producers and directors believe they can do better, they should write their own novels. These could then manure to their hearts content. Why this new series of "Marple" never was, first, is quite beyond me. I've seen all projections Miss Marple (and read all the books), and the only truly perfect actress for the character was the wonderful Joan Hickson, and their efforts are still easily available, and repeatedly on television with some regularity. Geraldine McEwan brings a nice quirkiness in character, and in its own way is very good, but somehow is not quite right, as in "4:50 from Paddington," those who thought they knew better than only until tart novel. I do not want to keep the story lines and keep them reasonable. " |
What a waste of talent. Terrible overacting combined with seemingly unnecessary in what was already an excellent argument. Geraldine McEwan seems perfect, and sometimes excellent. But as I heard someone say on the radio, which provides a 'smugness' I do not think that Christie never intended. The performance must stand Joanna Lumley that seems born for the part. Finally some of the scenes at the end was disappointing, and again full of character with the style of the rest of the film, like many modern films seem to need a swear word in them to give them some kind of credibility. |
