BREAKDOWN (1997) Aspect Ratio: 2.39:1 (Super 35) Sound Format: Dolby Digital After their car breaks down in the open, a married couple (Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan) is thrown into danger when Quinlan disappears after you accept the help of a sinister trucker (JT Walsh). This dash of suspense, in which Russell and Quinlan are entangled in a gruesome extortion plot after falling below some tasty characters (I will not say more). Credible plot twists lead to a dynamic climax that should have most of Rivette viewers to their seats, and probably represented the director Jonathan Mostowa be hired to conduct TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES (2003). Tense, exciting stuff, worth a look.
That's because the movie: Breakdown has a lot of signals from a 1988 French DivX Movie Breakdown titled "Spoorloos" (English title "The escape"). You are drawing parallels between the two films if you have seen both. There are a couple of genuine white-knuckle moments of distribution. The film, however, suffers a bit due to the second category and cast your performance. Was probably a much better kind of suspense Breakdown movie with a different set of actors. If you're biting your nails and eating a bucket of popcorn at the same time while sitting on the edge of your seat, then this film: Breakdown might be for you. If, on the other hand, you are in a bit more cerebral psychological thriller with some very disturbing ending, go rent The Vanishing. The latter, with very few minor flaws notwithstanding, has the power to stay in the mind of a spectator, but in a disturbing way, long after the lights back on.
I spent Christmas 2004 in Hungary, and breakdown seen on television the other night. Yes, it was dubbed in Hungarian, but I had already seen the film: Breakdown at the cinema a few years ago. And you know what? I was still excited to see where and in Hungarian as I saw at the cinema. Why? Because it tells its story mostly in pictures, for me this is the real power of a good film, with images to tell the tale. Kurt Russell is outstanding as the search for her kidnapped husband bewildered wife, and while it reminded me of the excellent Dutch DVD film Breakdown The Vanishing (the original 1988 version is not the terrible remake of Hollywood), and sometimes grief of Spielberg, who still has a real freshness about it, with a large photograph and address. Well worth watching, Russell possibly better performance. 9 / 10
As far fetched as it seems to me the plot of this movie: Breakdown to be, what I have in my personal library and never stop being entertained by it.A good work being done to keep the audience on the edge of their seats as our hero, Kurt Russell battles to save his wife from the clutches of a gang of small time extortionists. The DivX film Breakdown has flaws, but as I have said many times, no Breakdown Short film has to be absolutely perfect for entertaining, at least not for me. There are many elements of the DivX Movie Breakdown that I remember from the Spielberg classic Duel (desert, truck driver, dining, etc), so much so I think it's obvious that he was in the back of the minds of writers as he wrote this story, which could play a role in why I like it.I do not call this DVD film Breakdown a favorite, but I like it despite its imperfections.
