| This being directed by Nancy Meyers of "what women want" afme, I expected something more or less the same. The first half hour was really very good, but then seemed to drift for another 90 minutes. The focus of which was the main character seems to change once things too inconsistent. Frances McDormand, an Oscar-winning actress, was criminally underused and is widely regarded as the only good first half hour and then disappeared only to reappear at the end of the film. Nicholson walks through enough of this dream and Keaton makes a 50-year-old Ally McBeal. Reeves is also utilized in a love triangle and sub-plots that could have been developed much further. It's 2 main flaws are underspends McDormand and Reeves (particularly the love-triangle subplot) and Paul Michael Glaser and former husband appears to be hanging. The other flaw is its length, with a Something's Gotta Give movie of this length with many people who should not have been much more interaction, but we are left with instead of 2 give rise to dangerously bored. 5 / 10 |
| Nancy Meyers, thanks. This is one of the funniest, wittiest, most scripts for a delightful romantic comedy in recent years and also directed. There are so many hilarious lines of dialogue to match the equally hilarious situations that this script should be used as a model in movie: Something's Gotta Give schools to teach people how to do comedy. There are many of us out there that are very rare Jack Nicholson, but everything is forgiven in this movie, where the best of good humor that he is more than willing to laugh at himself as the man who "even when a lech is unconscious. "Moreover, I believe that when it actually changes. If Nicholson had no sense of humor, which would be intolerable. But his mood should be the cornerstone of its charm. So, to put it bluntly, he is brilliant convicted in this movie. Diane Keaton is pure magic, Frances McDormand (everyone's favorite supporting actress) is as good as expected, but much more sexy than usual, even mischievous and twinkly. it all works works so well. Keanu Reeves has to be quite serious and restricted in their part, judges and well. This is the case for whole game. If only more of them did so. |
| This DVD movie Something's Gotta Give is a drama about a man and a woman to build a complex set of barriers to fend off emotional intimacy, and thus avoid the pain. They want privacy, they want romance, they want love, and do not want to be alone, but are afraid to leave their defenses and injured and having to get in touch with a lot of repressed feelings. As their relationship evolves, both men and women go through a lot of changes and approach the edge of real physical and mental collapse before reaching a deal with who they are as people and what they really want in life. The woman is a playwright who writes about life, but not live it. The man is a womanizer who really want to, but love is incapable of making a commitment. When the two meet sparks fly as their defenses are in full swing, as they face a range of feelings about themselves and each other. Good movie. |
| This movie: Something's Gotta Give begins with an interesting idea and has some good laughs. Half way through you have the best parts. Then the writers seem to lose their way and are not able to find the best final. So I wrote as much as possible and stop forcing us to look at all. Finally, to solve the same trite Hollywood ending. Diane Keaton and Frances McDormand (his part is small) are very good. The chemistry between Nicholson and Keaton, however, is labor. |
