Nearly a decade after Cate Blanchett drew the attention of audiences and critics alike with ELIZABETH, the Oscar-winning actress returns to the role of the Virgin Queen. Though the protestant ruler has been on the throne for decades in 1585, Elizabeth I's reign is still under attack from both inside her country and from the continent. Her cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots (Samantha Morton), carries the favour of the nation's Catholics as she schemes for the throne from prison, while Spain's King Philip II (Jordi Molla) plots an invasion with the power of his famous armada. But Elizabeth is also concerned with the arrival of Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen), a charming pirate and adventurer. Unable to reconcile her feelings with her crown, she encourages Bess (Abbie Cornish), her beloved lady-in-waiting, to pursue a relationship with Raleigh.\nNine years haven't dulled Blanchett's ability to play this—or any other—character with an impressive range of fire and tenderness. Her chemistry with the infinitely watchable Owen is one of the film's highlights. As in ELIZABETH, director Shekhar Kapur doesn't restrict himself from using artfully constructed shots that aren't normally used in period dramas. It's a modern retelling of history, and Kapur and his director of photograpy, Remi Adefarasin, aren't content to let the film have the standard look of many films in the genre. Costume designer Alexandra Byrne follows the same logic, creating stunning dresses for Elizabeth that draw inspiration both from modernity and the time period. If Blanchett weren't such a gifted actress, the gorgeous costumes might threaten to overtake her as the star of the film.

The Elizabeth: The Golden Age movie was beautifully shot and definitely is Cate Blanchett, as always, wonderful. Technically, the sets and costumes were great, but as one commentator said, the love triangle was tedious and I felt that the Elizabeth: The Golden Age Drama relied too heavily on big sweeping shots inundated with choral music, which drags things enormously. Thematically, the DivX Movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age suffered from a number of reasons. In this era of religious strife, to face Elizabeth, white English Protestant supposedly (in the movie) supports freedom of belief (far from the historical truth) against the swarthier, Arab religious fundamentalists seeking Felipe of Spain (note: Arabic appearance is historically accurate, but still) creates a clear reduction uncomfortable parallel to modern conflict that remains of the film. Felipe giggles like crazy all the time, clutching his Bible. Furthermore, in an attempt to make accessible a woman Elizabeth, the Elizabeth: The Golden Age Drama film focuses on their "feminine vulnerability 'and the need for love that is drained of its power and political savvy that marked one of the greatest leaders, men or women that the world has ever known. Elizabeth I was a powerful politician, not a simpering little girl laughing at the foot of a man. When the film: Elizabeth: The Golden Age focuses on the political intrigues and the decisive destruction of the Spanish Armada, which shines. When focusing on the love triangle and reductionist religious fundamentalism, no. Unfortunately, much of the DivX Movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age focuses on the latter it is a trial to make it through the two hours.
Yes, we all love Cate and Clive, but is that really enough for a sequel ... No, I do not. If the DivX Movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age is beautiful, luminescent skin Cate, but cleavage heaving side, I shot more times in the eyes of Catholicism in the racks. And really, what's the point? That Elizabeth saved the Inquisition? We all knew that going in.. Oh, she was the virgin queen, check - we knew that too. How about some stories? What gives some tension to the hearing? Well, now I was aware that Virginia was named after the virgin queen - but on both a virgin as Madonna was in the 1980s. I wanted more and was disappointed. Save your money and watch something else
