| On the basis of some books PLTravers, "Mary Poppins" tells the story of the Banks family, living in London in 1910. Parents (Glynnis Johns and David Tomlinson) did not have much knowledge of their children Jane and Michael, and only until a mysterious woman named Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) appears from above to request a sitter. She works wonders in the family, both the change in the ways parents and the kids in a series of adventures with Bert (Dick Van Dyke), a humble man of many jobs. Disney gave real depth to the Mary Poppins movie through his use of Elsa Lanchester, Arthur Treacher, Reginald Owen, Ed Wynn and (especially) Jane Darwell (as named in the IMDb biography of the best known for her portrayal of the Lady of cameo birds, despite their 1940 Academy Award for one of the great performances of all time in Grapes of Wrath).
