This is a remake of Cyrano de Bergerac, one of the most celebrated plays of the French theater, written by Edmond Rostand. Instead of being set in 17th century France, 'Cyrano' has been changed to 'Charlie', a fire chief in a small town in Washington. Roxanne, played by the beautiful Darryl Hanna, rents a house for the summer to look at comets and Charlie quickly falls for her. Charlie is intelligent, funny, and sensitive, but all his fine qualities are unfortunately overshadowed by his very large nose ('Excuse me, it that your nose or did a bus park on your face?'). Charlie's friend, Chris, on the other hand, is quite attractive, but superficial and awkward with words, especially around women (he has a tendency to throw up a lot). Both men are enthralled with Roxanne, but she, in a shallow but predictable move, shows interest in the handsome Chris. Chris is tongue-tied around her — everything that comes out of his mouth is either vulgar or indecipherable. So he asks Charlie for help. Charlie, inspired, writes 3 love letters a day to Roxanne, unbeknownst to Chris. Charlie's eloquent letters work, because Roxanne falls in love with Chris. But Chris can't meet Roxanne's expectations in person and he soon runs off with a waitress who is 'pretty cute, too'.

The line that I quoted in the matter just tears my heart every time I hear that in this film, it is unfortunately very true in real life. Leaving aside the somewhat romantic unlikely outcome (rarely outside of the DivX film Roxanne the lives of working things, as concluded here), there is much to recommend this film-the "duels" between Martin and more moronic clods , particularly the verbal in the bar. As part observation (semi-spoiler, but only a small one): Martin is to get 20 more creative insulting remarks, but really 25 instead. Not that I complain, that counts, it is one of the funniest scenes in this film, possibly Martin's Roxanne Romance film career. Says a lot about tolerance, vanity, our own inability to see what is right in front of us, while the pursuit of happiness and value of dreams (even small ones). Not a masterpiece, but a small cinema in his own weight class. I like it, for all its implausibility at the end. Recommended.
I admit that was a nice and sweet version of the interpretation of Cyrano de Bergerac Martin. It's nice to see a bit of comedy in history. I know from history, but have seen none of the films. Therefore, this is pretty close I'm gonna get to the story, but my mom has the old version of Cyrano de Bergerac, which does not seem entertaining. Steve plays Charlie, a kind and funny with a little fireman ... well ... indeed much in the face, a very long and large nose. But ending reunion Roxanne, a very beautiful woman who is a rocket scientist and just want to be romance, meets another man, Chris, very handsome, but not exactly have a way with words. Charlie has a great love for Roxanne, but attracted to Chris, Chris also has a thing for Roxanne, so that through the most difficult times, helps Chris Roxanne ay Chralie try to go with his words through the mouth Chris. It is very sweet and romantic DVD film Roxanne with a bit of good laughs here and there. I think that is evaluated under a Steve Martin Roxanne movie that I think everyone can give a chance too. Because, let's face it, we all have that little imperfection that can always be seen as unique and beautiful in the eyes of others. 7 / 10
I do not enjoy routine Steve Martin, but was very impressed with the sensitivity and deftness with which he played Cyrano de Bergerac in modern guise. There is nothing archaic or Stilt on the script, but it is surprisingly faithful to the character of the original work (which in turn is closely based on the true story of Cyrano). Several scenes - including most of the best - was lifted almost intact from the Edmond Rostand play, but a viewer who is unfamiliar with the source, are unlikely to have the idea that the scenes are. Poetry, imagination and awaken the romantic instincts of the original work is treated with care and sensitivity. Daryl Hannah is just right as a thoroughly modern Roxanne voluntarily surprised to find that there is still romance in the world. You do not have to be familiar with the source to enjoy this witty, highly successful and enjoyable Roxanne Romance - but if you are, you can enjoy even more.
Steve Martin is a genius as a comic actor has never been in doubt. But occasionally even a genius does something amazing. For Martin's "Roxanne." Possibly the funniest Roxanne Romance film I've seen, not to mention romantic passion, but also does something that so few movies are able to do today ... is maintained despite the clever humor. In the current situation of many Hollywood comedies of the trap and free of deplorable antics cussing, "Roxanne" manages to entertain us through colorful characters, delightful surprises, clever and witty dialogue. Where movies like this have been? When to start? A rare jewel in the sands of Hollywood, see this Roxanne film as his life depends on it (tip to the wise: a date). Pay special attention to the character of Andy, is a special pleasure in the whole movie. Also look for a young Damon Wayans. Trafficking abounds.
