It's been a while since I've laughed a lot while watching a movie. This package of six regular Joes actually quite pleasant. And they are played by an excellent cast. Each and every one of them does not look like an actor, if you know what I mean. A great comedy, but also a very moving film. There is nothing funny in the harsh economic reality that these kids (and many others) have to endure. The soundtrack is excellent. There are even Gainsbourg "Je t'aime moi non plus" in it. A DVD movie Full Monty, The that just wants to see again! Seen at home, in Toronto on February 11, 2006. 87/100 (***½) |
The Full Monty offers an attractive, entertaining piece of comic gumption: Six workers become unemployed steel amateur male strippers, Baring as an antidote to unemployment. The title is British slang for "buck naked", but the Full Monty, The film is not about nudity, or lust, exactly. Take as an object in freefall in the sense of despair caused by unemployment. Since these bodies have been trying to exude flaccid "sexiness," director Peter Cattaneo his fight becomes a blue-collar survival reflex, which produces an acceptable amount of thin yet emotional weight. Robert Carlyle, but it plays a bitter divorced father spent trying to meet their support payments to his son to trust him, and Mark Addy wants to offer only to feed his wife, who cares about the secret buried in G-string his saggy clothes drawer of her husband. Ritual humiliation, suffering for the sake of loved ones, these men their dignity pawn for their economic survival. Cattaneo script that lets the runway at the social and fiscal conditions that support the working class under Thatcher, but mostly avoids politicizing the material. Instead, it points to rowdy, laugh-a-loud about the difficult passages pseudo debauchery. The Full Monty might be content with rather broad, coarse humor, but it has charm and intensely enjoyable Cattaneo deadpan gives an unexpected coherence. He exposes the comedy of embarrassment, and the comedy of shamelessness. ERIC BELTMANN |
I saw The Full Monty a month ago on television, and as soon as I saw it was up, I rushed to find a blank videotape to him. I did not know what to expect, but for some reason I felt I had to tape it. And blimey, that they deserve it! Now I watch the film: Full Monty, The every weekend and I like it as much as I did the first time I saw it. I love his style, his humor, everything. It's nice to see average people whose only goal was to get a job and to succeed, are willing to do anything. I bought the soundtrack too, and I can say clearly that it is worth buying if you like the music of 70. I think it's become my favorite movie. It is so simple and I like that, because at the same time is very enjoyable. |
This movie: Full Monty, The has real pathos and features first class performances by all members of the group of strip-tease - but especially Robert Carlyle as Bazzar. His character is unemployed, divorced, almost vagabond, and even a little depressed - not to mention being a bit irresponsible father - Carlyle and all that can go in the face only. Great job, very sensitive and very end. Probably the best short Full Monty, The movie of his half-decade, or at least the most memorable. |
