This is sometimes slow, but interesting, the DVD movie Barefoot Contessa, The has a number of strengths, in particular, its characters, writing, and settings. The cast also features some excellent performances by Ava Gardner, Humphrey Bogart and Edmund O'Brien. The 'Contessa' she is indisputably the center of attention, but there is also much appreciated. Gardner does well in a particular character to Mary, a character with an unusual mix of innocence and earthiness. The contrast between the symbolic use shoes and go barefoot at first seems a rather obvious device, but as the character develops gradually assumes greater significance. Gardner, with a lot of help from the script of Joseph Mankiewicz, is to convince Mary in the midst of a change of fortune in love and her career. Bogart is an ideal choice to play the director, whose very nature has an unexpected mix of world-weariness and integrity. O'Brien is one of his best roles, as a press officer who is a parasite, but which turns out to have a couple of interesting things inside it. I expected much more from the writer of this movie. Did not the creator of "All About Eve"? This is a wonderful satirical work interesting, credible characters. This film: Barefoot Contessa, The seemed ponderously written a series of one-dimensional characters, most of the clichés. Humphrey Bogart did his best, but Ava Gardner was unsatisfactory, but beautiful to see - a paper doll. Edmond O'Brien played his part superficial, but I was surprised to learn that he took the Oscar de Steiger, Cobb, Malden and its great to "The Waterfront." I am responsible for Joseph Mankiewicz. If this Barefoot Contessa, The Drama film was well written, it could have been really intriguing.
