In 2006, in Red River, Tennessee, a teenager has frequent nightmares. Her mother reads an old letter from 1817 written by her ancestor, Lucy Bell. After a dispute of lands judged by the church, her husband John Bell is cursed by his opponent Kathe Batts, who has a fame of being a witch. From this moment on, an entity threatens John and her daughter Betsy Bell, attacking the girl during the nights. With the support of Betsy's school teacher Richard Powell, who tries to find rational explanations for the manifestation; her brother John Bell Jr.; and their friend James Johnston, who unsuccessfully tries to exorcize the entity from the house, the family does their best to protect Betsy in the haunted house.

This seems to be a fantastic DivX Movie American Haunting, An to reach a point where the American Haunting, An Thriller movie begins to "explain" some things a little better. Once this occurs, the confusion started for me. I finished the movie: American Haunting, An is confused about why you started Hauntings. And since it is proven, finally, the part that plays the father in the attacks on the girl, then how do we make sense of the other events, like the scene in which the dragged up the steps, while everyone, including his father watches. Maybe it just me, but there are a large number of films that now are very good except for their endings.

As someone who is very familiar with the legend of the Bell Witch, I must say that I was very disappointed in this film. I live in Tennessee and have been for Adams, TN several times and have read many accounts of what is said to have happened to the Bell family. I guess I was expecting the story to be more in keeping with the legend. There are several parts of the legend that should have been included which were omitted for whatever reason. There is no account of history that I have found indicating that there had been any sexual abuse of Betsy Bell by her father. I guess this just goes to show that this day and age you can not even get a good round without having any sexual connotation implied.
